BURKELMAN is the collaborative creative practice of Kevin Burke and David Kimelman. Working through photography, fragrance, fashion, objects, and environment, we create works that express our shared feelings, fascinations, philosophies, and sensibilities.

A BURKELMAN work may take the form of a fragrance, a photographic print, fashion curation, a retail environment, a tee shirt, or another object or experience. Some works begin as images; others begin as scents, garments, materials, spaces, or as a more private emotional impulse. Across these forms, the work remains part of a single open-ended body that continues to expand over time.

Recurring themes include creation and destruction, vitality, sex and sexuality, identity, energy, and beauty in all its forms: natural, constructed, intentional, accidental, fleeting, strange, and unstable. The work emerges from the tension between these ideas and invites transformation, discovery, and self-invention. 

Commerce is embedded in the practice and is part of the work. The things we make, sell, wear, display, and live with continually feed one another: an image may become a fragrance, a fragrance may generate a print, a garment may suggest a portrait, a store environment may become the condition for new work. The exchange between art and commerce is how the work circulates, evolves, and becomes real.
